Directly above is a "magazine article" on the Zhou dynasty that I made. Below is an overview of the Zhou Dynasty in the form of a "Where I'm From" poem that I wrote, for the creatively inclined reader.
Where I’m From Poem – Zhou Dynasty Style
By Lindsey I am from China’s Zhou Dynasty. I am from the plotting tribe to the west, Following Wen Wang yet led by his son, Shouting “Tian Ming” to disguise our greed, Uniting many to take over one. From the rattling of oracle bones, Turning from the old gods and Paying tribute to relatives long dead, And molding sacrifices instead of killing them. From having knives pay for meals made By the bountiful harvests of thoughtful farmers, Served with wooden chopsticks, And wonderful tales painted on rolls of bamboo. I am from stories on silk, Animals in hunting scenes, Stone chimes, pan pipes, and mouth-organs, And 64 bronze bells in a tomb. |
From the smoke of Chengzhou stinging my eyes,
And the invaders laughing at my tears. The death of King You and the escape of Ping, The start of the Eastern Zhou, the end of the peace. From the rumble of the chariot beneath me, The taste of blood in my mouth, From the catapults and cavalry, And thinkers becoming murderers. I am from a shattered world, A paradise no longer. I look over my shoulder to check That there’s no knife in my back. From The Hundred Schools of Thought, All trying to change people, All trying to fix the problem, None knowing what the problem was. From the ups and downs in the times, From 200 years of prosperity, 600 years of war, And 800 altogether under the same name. I am from China’s Zhou Dynasty. |
